Animals on Air!

By Rachel

As the world enters yet another week of quarantine, humanity's spirit dims. Stuck indoors, feeling trapped by not only walls, but the negativity that the world is consumed by. What we relied on to break the tension of live is no longer available due to the stay at home order. But one thing that is still in our reach is television. Whether you enjoy Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, YouTube, or just good old TV, there are many shows and episodes available to take our stress away and give us a good laugh. Personally, one of my favorite TV channels to watch is Animal Planet. This channel have several different shows all relating to animals, whether it's behind the scenes at a zoo, rescuing and rehabilitating animals, or cops busting illegal animal activities. So if you need a new show to binge watch and you are an animal lover like me, here are some Animal Planet shows you may be interested in.

The first category of shows that are on Animal Planet are behind the scenes shows. The Bronx Zoo, the Australia Zoo, and the Georgia Aquarium all have shows that allow viewers to see what goes on behind the animal enclosures. Throughout multiple episodes, you are introduced to several key figures at each establishment, as well as the wonderful animals that are on display. While the Bronx Zoo and the Georgia Aquarium's shows mostly focus on their animals, the Australia Zoo also periodically checks in with the Irwin family for fun, bonus episodes. For example, did you know that Bindi Irwin, daughter of the crocodile hunter, got married?! That episode is airing currently on Animal Planet!

The second category of shows that are on Animal Planet are rescuing ad rehabilitation shows, such as Amanda to the Rescue, Pit Bulls and Parolees, the Vet Life, and Rocky Mountain Vet. These shows bring to the spotlight people working to save animals, either through a vet check up, or from helping unwanted animals get a second chance. Amanda to the Rescue is a show where Amanda and her family saves dogs who are thrown into pounds due to being special needs. Pit Bulls and Parolees follows Tia and her group of parolees who work at a dog shelter specifically for pit bulls. Not only is she giving the dogs a second chance, she is also giving parolees a second chance at a job and to correct their life. The Vet Life and Rocky Mountain Vet follow the daily deeds of veterinarians helping to save animals who are sick. These episodes are sure to make you feel good.

The third category of shows that are on Animal Planet are cops busting illegal animal activities. There are two shows, Lone Star Law and North Woods Law, that depict the work of wardens who make sure wild animals, as well as animals in the care of humans, are being taken care of. It's like your average live PD show, only with animals as the suspects. I personally haven't watched many episodes of either, but I am glad there are people out there taking care of wildlife from abusive humans.

Animal Planet not only airs these shows on TV, but it also has episodes and extras on their website and YouTube channel.
